Meet Bear, the Founder of BEAR.

MEET BEAR,

THE FOUNDER OF BEAR

Hello! I’m Bear! The founder of BEAR! I thought it was time I give you an elevator pitch.

I find so much joy in good food and am quite partial to a good drop of wine. I love camping and bushwalking and swimming but in the same breath am passionate about champagne, French flax linen sheets, and which cheese goes with which crackers. Also the sunlight sparkle on the ocean could be my favourite thing in the world.

I have been called Bear for as long as I can remember, I didn’t know it was since birth until a couple of years ago when I was overseas visiting my grandparents and they had a letter written by my mum in 1997 (the year after I was born) referring to me as ‘The Bear’.

BEAR (named after me, duh..) was born in 2024, when I moved to Sydney and was having trouble finding a job (as a nurse if you would believe). I was living in a share house of 8 (don’t ask) and NEEDED something to do with my days that didn’t involve deep cleaning the stovetop for the third time in a week. I have always had an eye for beauty - sensitive to beautiful things if you will. I spent my teenage years on Tumblr and Pinterest and spent my pocket money on magazines like Frankie and Yen.

I am always that friend taking pictures - which everyone moans about at the time, but without fail I get messages after every event/gathering/day out saying “Hey Bear, did you get any good pics from yesterday?” so lets all quit complaining that I'm not “living in the moment”. I find genuine joy in scrolling through my own instagram, looking at all the cool things I've done and all the great food I've eaten. I thought it was time I put these pictures to good use!

My parents have always encouraged travel, and used to take my brother and I overseas fairly often to visit our grandparents. I fell in love with exploring from them. I have been to a number of places, including but not limited to Egypt, Guernsey, Iceland, Greece, Slovenia and Vietnam.

Yes my top says “I travel with style on kitty jet line” - ok international glamour puss..

I will watch a movie or series again and again and again - I don’t like surprises because I feel so much joy and excitement when I get to look forward to something - I almost feel robbed of that excitement when it’s a surprise. That spans from looking forward to a scene in a movie, to planning trips - sometimes having things booked a year in advance! I spend a lot of my spare time scrolling through Airbnb, adding houses to my “dream stay” list. It’s always my job to find a place to stay for our holidays and I wouldn’t have it any other way! The ‘Stay’ tab on BEAR will eventually house most of these recommendations.

My attention to detail is next level. My brother Fraser and his friend Jamie used to play a game with me that they affectionately called ‘OCD Extreme’ (nice guys) in which they would come into my bedroom and when I wasn’t looking they would move something by as little as a centimetre and I would be able to tell them in a heartbeat what had changed. Great for the old anaesthetic nursing career. I feel like it’s this attention to detail that qualifies me to recommend places for you to eat, stray, & stay.

I have been at uni since I started uni, completing course after course because I am apparently a sucker for punishment. ahem.. I mean, education.. BUT I finished my latest course in November last year meaning I have loads more time for this passion project - it’s much more fun writing articles on travel and food, than essays on dementia and anaesthetics.

My plan with BEAR is to build a platform that inspires people to travel far and wide in search of beauty - think of BEAR as your travel concierge.

I look forward to inspiring you.

Stray beautiful,

Bear x
