Bronte Road Fish replaced the Bronte Road Bistro in Waverley. Straight off the bat, my favourite thing about this grand opening is that it is a 4 minute walk from my house (talk about dangerous)!
Bronte Road Fish opened only two weeks ago, and I have succumbed to this danger three times already. That’s 3 incredible fish burgers, 3 boxes of chippies, and waaaayy more than 3 limoncello spritz’s. The spritz’s have little personalised cans (I am well aware that I am a marketer’s dream - I fall victim every. single. time.).
The fish burger is something out of my dreams - a crumbed fillet of flakey white fish, a healthy handful of shredded iceberg lettuce, a slice of American cheese, pickles (!!), and a generous smear of tartare sauce all wrapped up in a soft potato bun. It’s an A+ from me.
The venue only accepts walk-ins, and has had a line out the door every day (I’ve been in it). You order at the bar, take a number, and either find a seat in the courtyard if you’re dining in, or stand on the street waiting for your docket number to be called (takeaway fish and chip shop-style). Food is delivered on a bright blue cafeteria-style tray, in little cardboard boxes, that house burgers wrapped in branded paper. The feel of the restaurant is relaxed, casual, and nostalgic. It almost feels like there should be a soundtrack of seagulls playing over the speaker system.
On one of my visits I ordered a side of fish with my fish burger. I chose the beer-battered hake, given that the burger has a crumbed fillet, I wanted to see the other side. It was fabulous: crunchy, oily goodness - exactly the way it should be.
Now the chips… I know this is a big thing for many of you. they are shoestring fry size chippies with skin on. They have the trifecta: golden, crunchy, soft. I personally don’t want all my chips to be crispy. My perfect fry is long and golden, with two crispy ends, and yes, I prefer skin on.
Price point at Bronte Road Fish is more than reasonable - especially for Sydney! I’m talking 18 fish burger, $4 chips, $4 soft serve, $12 limoncello spritz!
I highly recommend you try Bronte Road Fish.
I’ll see you there!
Stray beautiful,
BEAR.
